The Zamboanga Peninsula athletes ‘Sharks’ will depart as early as March 15, 2018 for the centralized training in the Palaro venue via Dipolog City despite the actual schedule of the games in the Province of Ilocos Sur on April 16-20, 2018 as announced by Sec. Leonor Magtolis Briones.
Outstanding performers in the regional palaro were selected to represent the region in the national level of sports competition.
A total of 524 athletes and 174 coaches, chaperons and officials will comprise the regional contingent.
Deped Regional Office IX congratulates all regional winners and acknowledges the full support of the host Local Government Unit of Zamboanga del Sur and DepEd Zamboanga del Sur Division and co-host LGU Pagadian City and DepEd Pagadian City Division, as well as the participating divisions for the successful conduct of the 2017 Regional Palaro.
Ilocos Sur was chosen as the palaro venue based on its readiness and completeness of its sports facilities, peace and order, and the support of the local government.
Palarong Pambansa gathers more than 12,000 young Filipino athletes from all over the country, playing different sports and disciplines to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among students.
The holding of this significant activity provides an avenue for friendly competition that develops physically fit and upright individuals. It also serves as springboard in the development of desirable attitudes and values among the youth to become productive, responsible and worthy leaders and citizens of our country.
