T he 2017 Post Palarong Pambansa Conference was held in The President Hotel, Lingayen, Pangasinan scheduled last August 2 – 5. The objectives of the conference were to assess the hosting and the conduct of the Palarong Pambansa in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique; discuss and address issues and concerns that surfaced during the conduct of palaro; and recommend proposals or policies to further improve the conduct of the said event.
Some of the agreements made during that meeting were the selection of the Palarong Pambansa venue or host LGU that should be made two years before the event for longer preparation, thus, the nomination or submission of Letters of Intent (LOIs) of interested host LGUs for the 2018 and 2019 Palaro and the screening and selection shall be undertaken from June 1 to July 31. As an offshoot, the yearly selection will be done in the same months following the closing of that year’s Palarong Pambansa.
The schedule of activities is set on July 1-31, nomination or submission of Letters of Intent; August 1-15, Joint Technical Inspection; August 16-31, Bidding; June 2017, bid for 2018 and 2019 host; June 2018, bid for the 2020 host; and June 2019, bid for the 2021 host.
Opening of the palarong pambansa may be scheduled preferably 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning or late in the afternoon preferably 4:00pm to 7:00pm for the health and safety of the athletes, technical officials and other participants, and the avoidance of sports competition in the morning of the following day. The establishment of sports program for student-athletes in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) or ALS-Sports was also discussed.
Meanwhile, other matters in the conference were the conduct of medical examinations of athletes that must be done two weeks to one month prior to the schedule of the Palarong Pambansa; and the granting of scholarships or other incentives for Palarong Pambansa winners.
