ALS Teachers to ‘Upskill’ in New Normal of Education

“No teacher should be left behind,” this is what Dr. Isabelita M. Borres, DepED RO9 Reg’l. Director said during the opening of UPSKILL: Shaping the New Normal for the Alternative Learning System(ALS), catering more than 300 teachers who underwent a 5-day intensive online training course to prepare them for the “new normal” education conducted  last Sept. 1-15 in three batches of Implementation. 

This course is implemented by Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s (AdZU) SUGPAT Program, in partnership with DepEd ALS, supported by UNICEF Philippines and ING.

“Ang remote learning ay hindi po bago sa DepEd ALS. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa programang ito ng upskilling ng ating mga teachers dahil ito po ay tugon sa ating mga plano. Nagiging advance ang napakarami nating plano through this training,” DepEd Assistant Secretary for Alternative Learning System G.H. Ambat said. 

Showing his support to the training, AdZU President Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ said “This project shows our commitment for innovation to cope and to adjust to the times. The skills that you will learn in this training are important in this new online learning and teaching platform. We re main committed to this very creative and innovative partnership and we will continue to work together so that our youth will benefit from this wonderful program of the Department of Education.”

In partnership with the ADZU Center for Teacher Education, the Upskill Training Program will accommodate the eight schools divisions of Zamboang Peninsula and deliver three modules:   
Flipped  Learning Approach, Self-Regulated Learning, and Action Research in ALS.
