BERF gets greenlight, lauds 16 presenters

Basic Education Research Refund (BERF) rolled up with some 96 regional qualifiers with 16 paper presentations from eight divisions.
Office of Planning and Research of the region spearheaded the year - end Capacity Building on Quantitative and Qualitative Research and Data Analysis cum Research Workshop at Hotel Koresco, Cagayan de Oro City (CDO) on December 21 – 22, 2017.
The event highlighted the training workshops, research galleries and paper presentations of top two research implementers for elementary and secondary levels.
In his message, Region 10 Regional Director, Dr. Allan G. Farnazo, CESO V pointed out that the event is a timely undertaking from which mentoring, leadership, professional development, and relationship among workmates are strengthened.
“Mentoring is not always scratching each other’s back,” RD Farnazo aptly put it.
Research professor at University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (UST –SP), CDO, Dr. Ismael N. Talili discussed the rudiments of data analysis and interpretation.
“In the Philippines and even in foreign countries, a huge number of researchers across disciplines become apathetic towards the end of the research process because they can hardly analyze and interpret the data,” Dr. Talili quipped.
“They end up hiring a data analyst or statistician,” he shared how money and time are wasted due to the inability of supervisors, school administrators, and teachers to analyze data using the most suitable techniques.
Moreover, Dr. Francis Thaise A. Cimene of UST – SP explained the techniques on data gathering and formulating research questions.
Meanwhile, Dr. Isabelita M. Borres, CESO III recalled how lucky the participants were as they have learned research to resolve pressing problems in their respective stations.
“We never had like this (research congress) before,” she narrated. “Your journey in DepEd is brighter or even brightest nowadays,” she emphasized how they gained continuous professional development through the said event.
Notwithstanding the threat of typhoon Vinta, the participants and regional office personnel breathed a fresh air as delegates trekked up Dahilayan Forest and Adventure Park in Bukidnon prior to Day 1.
In the night of December 21, winners of instant talent, beauty, and wit search for three consecutive years, 2015 – 2017 were awarded with trophies to recognize their effort.
RD Borres left a take away message: good administrators and supervisors clone better researchers.
