In the advent of technology in education, the Information and Technology Services- Central Office and the Information and Communications Technology Office of the region conducted the first ever Regional ICT Summit at Top Plaza Hotel, Dipolog City on December 3-4, 2017.
The summit has brought together ICT practitioners, policy makers, achievers in ICT education and implementation and other stakeholders in the region, division and school levels. The activity aims to provide ideal platforms to discuss innovations in education, enrich learning and teaching, build capacities for effective school and office management, and share top education resources.
Dir. Borres averred that there is a need for the educational system to keep up because the millennials were introduced to quality and velocity.
On the other hand, speakers on ICT innovations were Dr. Ryan Elumba, RO-IX President, Phil. Society of Information Technology who discussed about Artificial Intelligence; and Dr. Cecil Laplana, Founder, E-Talk, who articulated on Cyber bullying. Mr. Art Tuazon, Information Technology Officer of the Central Office emphasized the three word values on keeping up with the information technology-Enhance. Enable. Encourage.
Some 130 individuals who are ICT coordinators coming from the eight schools divisions including ICT focal persons, Schools Division Superintendents and Assistant Schools Superintendents, Education Supervisors and selected Principals attended the said activity. This event is in line with DepEd Memo. No. 143, series of 2017 entitled, “Digital Information with the KID (K-12 + ALS, ICT, DepEd).”
Meanwhile, ICT Best Practices of the different divisions were showcased through booths display and video presentations. Winning schools and divisions were given recognition and the chance to participate in the upcoming National ICT Best Practices Awards come February 2018.
ZaNorte’s “Cloud” won the ICT Innovation for Governance Category while “The Big Picture” application of Liloy District 2, Zamboanga del Norte won the ICT Innovation for Teaching and Learning Category.
DepEd Region IX Director, Dr. Isabelita M. Borres along with some of the key officials of the Regional Office graced the awarding ceremony on December 3, 2017.
