As School Year 2020-2021 starts, school personnel of Glab Integrated School shares photos of their ascent through mountains and rivers in time for the simultaneous opening of classes on October 5, 2020. Headed by School Principal Joel B. Arnejo, teachers endured perilous motorcycle rides and hours of walk through deep mud and slippery road to reach waiting parents and learners for the distribution of modules and other school materials.
This recently integrated school is located in the heart of Brgy. Cogonan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur and for six years, the treacherous travel has been part of Sir Joel’s routine together with his fellow educators. Nevertheless, they remain steadfast in their commitment to deliver quality education to this small sitio up in the mountain. When asked what keeps him going, Sir Joel answered with this, “Being a mountain school head, the innocent and cooperative community people of the Sitio motivates me in serving the community. They are my strength when I am weak.
I am also modeling to my co-workers not to transfer immediately from our station despite of its geographical location that cannot yet be penetrated by transportation.”
Aside from the distribution conducted in the school premises, Sir Joel together with his staff, also delivered learning materials to households whose parents and guardians weren’t able to retrieve their weekly provision at the school. They likewise utilized this opportunity to monitor the progress of their learners in using the modules and answering the provided activity sheets.
